Maya, a brand new archtop guitar. The design brief was to build a guitar with contemporary styling and playability, plus uncompromising sound and build quality.
The body size (16.5” ), shape, and a scale length of 650mm, were important considerations in achieving the desired sound and sleek looks. The cutaway is very much in the European style, giving easy access to the upper registars.
Acoustically the response is very open and airy, beautifully defined, with a unique voice.
Recorded into an Olympus LS-100 using the recorders on board mics, approx. 12" from the treble f hole. The wav files are direct out of the Olympus, no EQ or reverb, just the acoustic sound of the Maya. This is the same guitar featured in the MP3 file with Martin Taylor playing. It was brand new when I recorded Martin, but a few months on, it's beginning to open out, developing a beautifully smooth, rich, and detailed acoustic sound. Adam is a great guitarist as well. For more details of the guitar see the Work In Progress Page
